Nahki Wells has recalled his New Year's Day hat-tick for Queens Park Rangers against Cardiff City.

The now Bristol City striker undertook a second-straight loan-spell with QPR this season. On-loan from Burnley, Wells had been one of QPR's saving graces under Steve McClaren last season, and started this season under Mark Warburton in even better form.

He scored 13 goals in the first-half of this season for QPR with three of them coming against Cardiff on New Year's Day.

He shared this post on Twitter:

In the run-up to New Year both Wells and QPR were struggling. The Bermudan was having a mini drought over the festive period as his side were starting to slip towards the drop zone, but he reinstated any lost confidence with his Cardiff display.

Bright Osayi-Samuel bagged a brace that day, and Ebere Eze chipped in with one to secure an emphatic 6-1 win in West London.

Wells had a contested January which saw him return to parent club Burnley so that they could cash in on him. Several clubs wanted to sign the £4 million forward, and although QPR fans wanted him to return to the club, the move was out of their price range.

The verdict

Wells has long been a clinical Championship striker and he showed that day against Cardiff that he can be one of the best in the league. He's started well at Bristol City with two goals in eight games, but fans will be hoping for a bigger turnaround from the 29-year-old next season.
