Bristol City striker Nahki Wells has revealed he is determined to make his mark in the Premier League with his new club after sealing his switch from Burnley at the end of last month.

Wells had netted 13 goals in 26 Championship outings or loan club QPR this term before he was recalled by Burnley amid reported interest from Bristol City and Nottingham Forest, and the frontman eventually settled on a move to the Robins.

The 29-year-old has made two substitute appearances since completing his move to Ashton Gate and, while City suffered a 3-1 defeat to Birmingham in their last outing, Wells appears determined to help his new club reach the top-flight this season.

Wells has signed a permanent deal with second-tier outfit City after failing to make an impact during two-and-a-half seasons as a Burnley player, but the Bermudan has now claimed he does not want to settle with being stuck in the Championship.

As per Bristol Live, Wells has revealed he opted for a move to the Robins as a result of their matched ambition to reach the Premier League, while he suggested that it still pains him how he did not take his top-flight opportunity at Burnley.

"Me, as a player who had a Premier League opportunity - I didn’t really get to take it, so that’s still something that burns me deep inside," Wells said.

"The club matched my ambition to want to continue to move forward and not settling with just being in the Championship.

"This club wants to move forward to the Premier League and my ambition is the same."

Wells only managed to make 10 appearances for Burnley following his move from Huddersfield in 2017, with this meaning he has only featured nine times in the top-flight after playing most of his senior career in the Championship.

The Verdict

Wells has clearly realised that the time is now fast-approaching for him to make his mark in the Premier League following so many years in the Championship, and this suggests why he may have favoured a move to City above all else.

The frontman could have perhaps had the option of staying at QPR following his 18-month spell with the West London outfit, but the fact City are much better placed to launch a promotion bid means his decision is understandable.

I would expect Wells to now play a key role for City throughout the remainder of the campaign, and Johnson should give him a start against Derby on Wednesday in order to help him settle into the side as early as possible.
