Huddersfield Town defender Naby Sarr has admitted that he can’t wait to play in front of supporters once again, with the Frenchman having yet to have experienced the club’s famous match day atmosphere due to the ongoing pandemic.
A summer signing for the Terriers, Sarr arrived at the club this summer from relegated Charlton Athletic and has had something of a mixed start to his career in Yorkshire.
Of course it has all come against the backdrop of strange circumstances, with there being no fans permitted in various grounds across the country.
Therefore it is perhaps unsurprising to know that Sarr’s biggest hope for the new year is the return of Huddersfield’s fans, with the big centre back stating the following to Yorkshire Live:
“I haven’t seen fans since March, so that’s a very long time.
“Football is really weird without fans.
“The first few games back (after lockdown) were a bit difficult to adapt to.
“At some points you think you’re playing in a friendly game but now it’s different because we’re more used to it.
The big festive Huddersfield Town quiz: Can you get 20/20?
“But of course, football in front of fans is so much different. Especially when you’re winning.
“They can have a big impact on the game.
“Hopefully they will come back soon and I will be able to meet them finally!”
Since signing for the club, the former Lyon youth player has appeared for the Terriers on 12 occasions whilst also notching his first goal for the club earlier in the campaign.
I have to really sympathise with Naby Sarr here as I can imagine it must be a very strange experience to come into a new club and not get to introduce yourself to supporters in the flesh.
Supporters are yet to be allowed into Huddersfield’s ground and that is something that doesn’t seem likely to change until the vaccine is rolled out nationwide.
As we all know, supporters are the lifeblood of the game and it simply hasn’t been the same without them over these past few months.
Let’s hope Naby gets his wish in the months ahead and that The John Smith’s Stadium get’s it’s voice back soon.
