‘My word, what a performance’ – Many Lincoln City fans react to 20-year-old’s play-off display

It’s advantage Lincoln City after the Imps defeated Sunderland 2-0 in the first leg of the League One play-off semi-finals last night.

Over 3,000 Imps supporters made plenty of noise at the LNER Stadium as goals from Tom Hopper and Brennan Johnson sealed a big win for Michael Appleton’s side, heading into this weekend’s away leg.

Hopper made it 1-0 on 51 minutes, tapping in at the back post after Jorge Grant fired a teasing effort back across goal.

Johnson then doubled Lincoln’s lead on 77 minutes, profiting from a huge error from Lee Burge. The Sunderland goalkeeper kicked the ball straight at the Nottingham Forest loanee after being closed down, and he tapped into an empty net.

Down the other end, though, Josef Bursik was inspirational for City, denying Jordan Jones with an outstanding save shortly after half-time.

It has been a hectic couple of days for Bursik, who is now into his second emergency loan spell of the season.

The Stoke City goalkeeper won promotion with Peterborough a fortnight ago, and signed for the Imps on Tuesday after an injury to Alex Palmer.

Here, we take a look at City fans’ reactions to his performance against Sunderland last night…
