Football League World's Barnsley fan pundit Dan Sykes has revealed he is worried that the club will have to sell players in January in order to allow new manager Gerhard Struber to make the signings he needs.

The Austrian took over in November and despite leading them to their first win since the first day of the season, has been unable to move them off the bottom of the table.

Struber has won once and lost three times since taking charge of the Tykes–leaving them six points adrift of safety.

Despite that, Sykes believes there are real positives to be taken from Struber's start.

He explained: "It's obvious that Struber's arrival at has been well received by the players and they are willing to give him 100%. Whilst I'm not certain that we have the players to support his preferred tactical system he does seem to have adapted."

"I am surprised that he is playing Cauley Woodrow at the tip of his diamond, but he is one of our players that has genuine Championship quality so if anyone can adapt, it will be him."

Barnsley sold a number of their key players in the summer, including Liam Lindsay and Kieffer Moore, and Sykes added that he was worried the winter transfer window might more departures.

He said: "My only concern is that he still probably needs to strengthen in January, and to do that I'm worried we will have to sell to raise funds."

Barnsley welcome both Reading and QPR to Oakwell over the next week.
