Murray Wallace has sent a message to Millwall supporters after signing a new long-term contract at The Den.

The versatile defender won the Championship club's Player of the Season award in 2021/22 after making 44 appearances and scoring six goals in all competitions.

Yesterday, the club confirmed that Wallace had been handed a fresh reward for his efforts in the form of a new long-term deal in south London.

The Scotsman took to Twitter not long after to reach out to Millwall fans and reveal his excitement at putting pen to paper on a fresh contract.

Wallace joined from Scunthorpe United in 2018 and has been a reliable option ever since – though he took his game to a new level last season.

Comfortable as a left-sided centre-back, left-back, or left wing-back, the 29-year-old is a useful and trusted asset for Gary Rowett.

That said, he is likely to be battling it out with Leeds United loanee Charlie Cresswell for a place in the starting back three this term.

The Verdict

Wallace is well deserving of the plaudits he's received over the past year and the new long-term deal he's been given at The Den.

The Scot is a fairly unglamorous defender, bar some eye-catching Cruyff turns last season, and has not always been the most popular amongst the fanbase but that has certainly changed over the past 12 months.

The versatility he offers Rowett on the left side of defence is priceless and it makes sense to tie him down to a new deal.

It is going to be interesting to see who gets the nod against Stoke City on Saturday and what the first choice back three is as the season wears on.
