Millwall defender Murray Wallace has hailed the impact that Gary Rowett is having at Millwall after his side extended their unbeaten run to seven in the Championship at the weekend.

A single goal from Tom Bradshaw on Saturday was enough for Gary Rowett's Millwall to claim the 1-0 win at a former club of his, and for his side to extend their unbeaten run in the league.

The win is Rowett's fifth as Lions' boss and they remain beaten only once under his guidance - they now sit 11th in the Championship table, two points off Fulham in 6th.

Speaking to London News Online about Millwall's season so far, Wallace said how his side got 'carried away' with their start to the campaign under Neil Harris:

“At the start of the season we had a great start and started getting carried away – thinking we’d do this – then had a bad run of form.

“We’ve had games before in midweek where we’ve given a lot of effort but not hit the same standards - It comes down to the staff and how we recover."

Rowett, 45, has now been at the helm for almost two months, overseeing nine games and taking an impressive 18 points in that time.

“We were brilliant again today," said Wallace after his side's win at Pride Park. "A new manager comes in and you get the bounce with new ideas. The manager gives a lot of credit to Harris and the squad he’s formed.

"He sees what a great group it is. He has just bought his side and tactics and energy in training. It’s gone down really well - We’re enjoying playing for him.”

Millwall host bottom-club Barnsley at the weekend as Rowett's side look for a third-straight win in the Championship.

The Tykes though picked up their third win of the season and their second under Gerhard Struber with an impressive 5-3 showing against QPR at the weekend.

A win for Millwall could throw them into the top-six depending on other results, and would take Millwall's unbeaten run to eight Championship games.

The verdict

Everything looked set for Harris and Millwall to have a solid campaign but the time was right for a change at The Den, and in came Rowett who's done a fine job so far.

Rowett looks to have instilled some much needed confidence into his Millwall side and has them playing some really attractive, effective football - they could be dark horses for a top-six finish this season.
