A number of Bristol City players, including Korey Smith and Kasey Palmer, have sent tributes to Benik Afobe after he posted an encouraging update on his rehabilitation from injury.

The 26-year-old joined the Robins on a season-long loan deal on transfer deadline day and made an early impact for the Championship club–scoring three times in his first five games.

In September, Afobe suffered a ligament injury in his knee that it was suggested may mean he misses the rest of the season.

However, it appears the striker's rehabilitation is going very well as he

Clearly, Afobe still has a long way to go before he can be considered for selection by Lee Johnson but this latest injury update certainly hints that he may be able to help the Robins' push for the play-offs in the current campaign.

The 26-year-old appears to be a popular figure in the City dressing room as a number of players, including Smith and Palmer, took to Instagram to send messages of encouragement to him.

City are sixth in the Championship as things stand and will be pushing for a play-off finish in the second half of the campaign.

The Verdict

It is great to see Afobe back with his boots on after a really worrying and unfortunate injury in September.

You have to feel for the striker, who was really beginning to find his feet at City before suffering the ligament injury in training.

It appears he's a popular member of the squad and you feel that he could have a permanent future with the Robins if he is able to prove to them he can return to his best after the injury.

With Nahki Wells joining the club in January, Johnson could have some really exciting attacking options if Afobe is capable of getting back on the pitch before the end of the season.
