Hibs striker Kevin Nisbet has handed in a transfer request as he looks to push through a move to Birmingham City.
Aitor Karanka has been desperate to bring in another new number nine to partner Sam Cosgrove, who signed from Aberdeen yesterday.
And, Nisbet has been on Blues’ radar in the past few days. The Championship side have been in contact with the Edinburgh outfit, and they had a £3m offer turned down last night.
It was suggested that the bid, which would give Hibs a considerable profit on the £250,000 they paid for him in the summer, was the final one made by Blues, so the matter was considered closed.
However, in a further twist, the Sun have now claimed that Nisbet has handed in a transfer request.
They state that the player ‘feels backed into a corner’ over mixed messages from the Scottish Premiership side, so now wants to leave. But, it remains to be seen whether Blues can agree a deal with Hibs before the deadline tonight.
Nisbet has scored 11 goals in 23 league games this season.
Birmingham City quiz: Can you name the club’s top goalscorer from the last 13 seasons?
This is a very interesting development, and it’s came out the blue because all the talk in the past few days indicated Nisbet wouldn’t push for a move.
Clearly, it wouldn’t be ideal for Hibs to keep a player who doesn’t want to stay, and if they could get £3m for him, it would represent good business.
For Blues, they need another striker, so the fans will be desperate for the club to get this done.
