With the January transfer window fast approaching, speculation is rife at every club in the EFL, and this is most certainly the case for Leeds United.

It's no secret that the Whites are wanting to bring another goalkeeper to provide competition to Bailey Peacock-Farrell, with Jamal Blackman having his loan cut short last month after breaking his leg.

There have been a host of names linked with a move to Elland Road - the likes of Burnley's Tom Heaton and Sheffield Wednesday's Keiren Westwood to name just a couple, but the man who looks the most likely to sign for Marcelo Bielsa's men is Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow.

The 28-year old has made just one appearance for Newcastle this season which came in the Carabao Cup, and has fallen behind Martin Dubravka in the pecking order at St. James' Park - despite playing an integral role in the Magpies' promotion to the Premier League a couple of seasons.

It's that 2016/17 title-winning season for Rafael Benitez' men that we will be analysing in our FLW Spotlight today, as we take a look at what Darlow could bring to Leeds United...

It was just what the doctor ordered for Newcastle back in 2016/17 - an immediate return to the Premier League after relegation from the top flight - the Magpies took the Championship by storm, winning 29 games out of 46 and winning the league with 94 points.

Darlow was at the heart of that success - he featured in 34 out of those 46 league matches, keeping 13 clean sheets and conceding just 32 goals for a Newcastle side that boasted the best defensive record in the league along with fellow promoted team Brighton that season.

A clean sheet percentage of 38.2% is remarkably high for a goalkeeper in any division, so Darlow would definitely offer Leeds some reliability and stability in between the sticks.

Playing out from the back is a key trait in Marcelo Bielsa's teams, and Darlow would definitely contribute to that too. He made an average of 32 passes per game accruing a pass success rate of 55%, albeit some kicks being long balls up field.

It's evident that Karl Darlow is a very astute, talented goalkeeper at Championship level; and these statistics show just how important he can be in goal.
