Blackburn bounced back to the Championship at the first attempt after a thrilling and dominant season in League One.

They only ever looked like fighting for second or first place, eventually finishing behind Wigan Athletic who also secured an immediate return.

Now, both sides will be hoping to follow the example set by Millwall and Sheffield United by challenging at the top of the Championship table.

Of course, that is no mean feat and they'll need more than just momentum and hope. Tony Mowbray will need to fully review his Blackburn squad and assess which of his players are worth a try before he goes out and buys.

Is there a hidden gem in the squad that will reveal itself in pre-season? Which are the players who deserve a chance to shine ahead of the big kick off?

FLW looks at three Ewood Park players who could benefit from some pre-season football.

Left sided centre back Wharton plays impressed on loan at Lincoln City last season, he's both commanding and assured despite his tender years.

There aren't many left sided centre halves about and that rarity, combined with his knack off getting forward and scoring goals, should convince Mowbray to have a closer look in pre-season before loaning him out once more.

20-year old Nyambe is another defender worth looking at closer in pre season. He made 29 appearances last season, but having emerged through the youth ranks he looks set for a big future.

Before Mowbray thinks of making any moves in the transfer market, he should definitely pay attention to both Nyamabe and Wharton. After all, it has been proven you can win plenty with kids, if they're the right ones.

Graham came off the bench 13 times for Blackburn last season, suggesting he may not be the first choice when it comes to the forward line.

However, the 32-year old bagged 14 goals and he's got lots of experience of the second tier. He should be given ample opportunity to prove he's the right man to lead the line next season.
