Blackburn take on Wigan in the next round of Championship fixtures with both sides looking to secure their safety as quickly as possible.

The pair came up from League One and it is Rovers who have looked that bit stronger than the Latics in the second tier.

Indeed, Wigan are more under threat from the drop than the Ewood Park club, but both know how important a win will be when they meet this week.

Rovers, however, will have to do things without Charlie Mulgrew with Tony Mowbray ruling him out of the game earlier today in his press conference - via the official club website.

Mulgrew had to come off in the game against Preston with a knock and it is clear that he has not managed to shake that off.

Mowbray revealed:

“Charlie has a grade one hamstring injury.

"He’s had a scan and won’t be ready for Tuesday, and I don’t think he’ll be ready for Saturday."

The Verdict

A blow for Blackburn, clearly, given the level of ability Rovers have got in that left foot of his.

He's been having a fine season for the club and so to not have him in a big game like this is, of course, a blow.

However, there are plenty of good players that can step up for Rovers in his absence and Tony Mowbray will be asking them to do that.
