Ipswich Town have enjoyed a phenomenal start to the new campaign, and lie second in the Championship table following four wins from their first five games.

The Tractor Boys have surprised many with their early season form, with a number of Mick McCarthy’s new signings settling into the club quickly and effectively.

The former Ireland boss will not rest on his laurels however, and will consider adding to his squad before the transfer window slams shut this week.

Ipswich have conceded six in the league this season, and McCarthy will be keen to ensure this defensive record is further improved upon, and should consider a swoop for Nottingham Forest’s Jack Hobbs.

The former Liverpool and Leicester City defender is surplus to requirements at the City Ground this summer, with Mark Warburton keen to get the player off the wage bill.

Forest have options at the back, and with Hobbs not guaranteed a starting spot, the player will certainly consider any offers that come his way.

Ipswich’s excellent start will certainly attract Hobbs to Suffolk, and McCarthy would be delighted to bolster his squad with the solid defender.

Whether Ipswich can maintain their form throughout the season and push for a place in the top six remains to be seen, but with depth in numbers, McCarthy’s side are in a much better position to compete than they were at this stage last summer.

Losing Tom Lawrence following the expiration of his loan deal was a blow to Ipswich, but replaced with Martyn Waghorn and Joe Garner, the club are playing some excellent football, and adding Hobbs to the mix will only serve to boost Ipswich’s promotion credentials.

Is Hobbs the right man for Ipswich?
