Tranmere left back Callum McDonald has issued a battle cry ahead of Saturday’s trip to early pacesetters, Forest Green Rovers.

Forest Green find themselves four points clear at the top of the table after a blistering start which has seen them suffer only one defeat this term.

However, McDonald believes Tranmere will be buoyed by the weekend’s 2-0 home victory against Salford and will travel to The New Lawn confident they can spring a surprise.

He told the club’s official website: “They (Forest Green) were up there and thereabouts last season, they play nice football from what we have seen, but there is nothing to fear, and we believe that we are as strong as anyone else.

“We will go there with a game-plan to try and win the game and if you win a couple of games on the bounce, you can move up many places."

Despite a mixed start to the season McDonald believes the club should be aiming for League One football next term and, along with his teammates, is dedicated to the cause.

McDonald said: “I don’t think anyone at this club hides the fact that we should be getting promoted, that’s our aim and that’s our goal. So, every single day and every single game, we are going to work towards that goal.”

The Verdict

Although they are yet to hit full form so far this season, Tranmere will be confident they can repeat last season’s run to the play-offs where they were narrowly defeated by Morecambe at the semi-final stage. A win against a strong Forest Green side would send a message to the rest of the division and strengthen Rovers belief that the top-end of the table is where they belong.
