Sheffield Wednesday are looking to avenge last season’s Play-Off final defeat to Hull City, and go one step further this term, by achieving promotion to the Premier League.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side are currently sat in the Sky Bet Championship top-six, and look likely to remain there until the end of the season.

The January transfer window saw the additions of Jordan Rhodes and Sam Winnall, the strikers joining the Owls from Middlesbrough and Barnsley respectively.

These two players have given Carvalhal options as to who he can partner with top scorer Fernando Forestieri in attack, and the option to rest his main man if required.

Tom Lees and Glenn Loovens, along with goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, give the Owls a solid defensive base, allowing their more creative players freedom.

Should Wednesday fail to make the Premier League this season, some of their players may look for a move away from the club.

Over the past 18-months many of Carvalhal’s squad have impressed, here is a look at TWO that will surely be in demand during the summer…

Fernando Forestieri

Forestieri made a huge impact for Wednesday last season, helping Carvalhal’s side reach the Play-Off final, scoring 15 goals across the campaign.

Doubts were raised over the 26-year old’s future with the club during the summer, when he refused to play against Norwich City at the beginning of the season.

Since his reintroduction to the team, Forestieri has shone, scoring nine-goals and helping Wednesday to a chance of promotion.

With Forestieri coming into his prime, he will want to test himself at the highest level.

If the Owls fail to make the Premier League this season, Forestieri is sure to be in demand and could well be on his way out of Hillsborough.

Tom Lees

Lees joined Wednesday during the summer of 2014, from Leeds United, and has made a fantastic impression in South Yorkshire.

His first full season with the club saw him earn a new deal, with the Owls securing Lees’ services until 2019.

Lees also played a major part in Wednesday’s promotion push last season, helping them reach the Play-Off final.

Glenn Loovens has proved to be the perfect partner in central defence for Lees, whose game has improved so much since his move across Yorkshire.

The former England under-21 international’s performances will not have gone unnoticed and Lees is sure to be on the radar of many Premier League clubs.
