Portsmouth are looking for a return to the good times in 2017, with the South-Coast club aiming for promotion from Sky Bet League Two.

Pompey fans have suffered a horrific fall from grace, following an FA Cup victory in 2008, the club have suffered three relegations and now find themselves in the bottom tier of the English Football League.

This season, Paul Cook’s side are fighting their way toward promotion to League One. Pompey are sitting fifth in the table, just six-points behind the automatic promotion places.

Defender Enda Stevens issued a rallying call to his teammates recently, telling them it was “now or never” in the race for automatic promotion.

Cook’s side are five-points clear of eighth place Mansfield, and Portsmouth fans will expect nothing less than a Play-Off finish in May.

Last season saw Pompey lose a Play-Off Semi-Final to Plymouth Argyle, as they were made to wait for a return up the footballing ladder.

Portsmouth have some excellent players, who have impressed in League Two, however, the club may be left vulnerable to a transfer raid, if they fail to gain promotion.

Here is a look at TWO Portsmouth players that will surely be in demand during the summer transfer window…

Conor Chaplin

Chaplin stepped off the bench to score the equalising goal on Saturday in a 1-1 draw with Barnet.

The 20-year old midfielder has eight goals to his name this season, in just 11 league appearances for Pompey.

Since breaking onto the scene in 2015, Chaplin has impressed and scored 11 goals last season, in what was his first full campaign as a professional.

Despite his goal scoring antics over the past 18-months, Chaplin is struggling for a regular start for Pompey, something that may come to the attention of rival clubs- particularly with how he has impressed when he is given an opportunity.

Chaplin may already be on the radar of some Football League clubs, with the midfielder showing potential to go all the way to the top.

Christian Burgess

Burgess has made 32 appearances for Portsmouth at the heart of defence this season, scoring three-goals in what has been an impressive campaign.

The defender has been virtually ever-present in a defence that has managed to keep 13 clean sheets during the League Two campaign.

The former Middlesbrough and Peterborough defender is just 25-years old, and is coming into the peak years of his career.

After some impressive performances this season, Burgess is sure to be in demand during the summer, and if Pompey fail to gain promotion from League Two, the defender could find himself moving up the divisions.
