Portsmouth have signed winger Ryan Williams from Rotherham United, as reported by the club's official site.

The 25-year-old is an Australian international, who began his career in the UK with Pompey after moving from ECU Joondalup as a youngster.

He made just four appearances for the club, but got plenty of experience with loan spells with sides such as Gillingham, Oxford and Barnsley. He eventually made a permanent move to Oakwell for an 'undisclosed fee'.

He moved to Rotherham in 2017 and has since made 88 appearances for them including 39 in the Championship last season. That led to him being called up by the Socceroos for a friendly against South Korea in May.

Speaking to the club's official website, Pompey boss Kenny Jackett lauded his new signing, saying; "Ryan is out of contract and we’re pleased that he’s chosen Pompey, who were his first club many years ago.

“He’s an attacking winger who can play on either side and ensures we have good competition in that area."

Supporters have also taken to Twitter to express their opinion at the signing, which has come on the back on finding out they're set to miss out on Scottish wide man Gary Mackay-Steven.

It seems they're divided between fans wanting to go on previous stats alone and others wanting to give Williams a chance.
