‘Most obvious transfer deal of the summer finally done’ – Wigan fans react to their latest acquisition

It was confirmed today that free agent Gary Roberts has been snapped up by League One side Wigan following the termination of his contract at League Two champions Portsmouth.

Last season the 33-year-old contributed ten goals and ten assists in 41 league games as Pompey won the league title and gained promotion to League One.

The veteran playmaker is reuniting with his former boss Paul Cook whom he played under at both Portsmouth and Chesterfield.

Roberts has plenty of experience at League One level and with Wigan looking to regain their Championship status at the first time of asking, that experience could be priceless to the side.

Here at FLW, we think this is a great signing from Paul Cook as it’s always good to get some experience into your team.

But what do the Wigan fans think? FLW writer Adam Goacher has taken to Twitter to find out exactly what the Latics fans think of the signing of Gary Roberts…
