Jamal Blackman looks like joining the lengthy list of absentees at Leeds United, with the goalkeeper suffering a nasty looking injury in an outing for the club’s under-23s.

Leeds’ injury list is continuing to grow, with Marcelo Bielsa without a number of first-team players at this current time.

Bielsa has made a habit of allowing his fringe players to play in the 23s, with Blackman featuring regularly for Carlos Corberan’s side.

However, today, against Birmingham City, the Chelsea loanee suffered a nasty injury, with the Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Urquhart confirming the goalkeeper had to be stretchered from the field with an aircast on his right leg.

Blackman has made just two appearances for Leeds so far this season, with both of those coming in the League Cup.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell has been Leeds’ first choice goalkeeper, with the 22-year-old making 17 appearances in the Championship.

Despite the worrying news on Blackman, there was a positive update from today’s under-23s fixture, with Izzy Brown making a comeback.

The on loan Chelsea attacker has been out since January, but completed 45 minutes of the clash with Birmingham City.

The Verdict

This is seriously worrying for Leeds.

Blackman might not have featured yet in the Championship, but his presence in the squad was helping to push Peacock-Farrell.

The injury he’s picked up sounds serious, and if he’s out for an extended period, it’s bad news for Leeds and the player himself.
