More recruits are needed at Sheffield United if a relegation scrap is to be avoided

Published

With the season fast approaching, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder’s summer transfer dealings seem to have hit a speed bump, with four new faces introduced to the squad since the Blades achieved promotion last season.

The south Yorkshire side walked to the League One title last time out, but the step up to the Championship will be difficult, and Wilder must begin to bring more faces into the club if they are to avoid a relegation scrap this season.

Ched Evans, Enda Stevens and George Baldock have joined from club in League One and Two, with Richard Stearman linking up with the club from Fulham, and many will question whether the three signings to have come from the lower levels are prepared for second tier action.

Wilder will surely bring in at least one new face before the Blades’ season kicks off at Bramall Lane with the visit of Brentford, and the former Northampton gaffer must bring in players with Championship experience and quality.

The club have picked up some real lower league gems, but the likes of Stevens and Baldock may require a settling period as they adapt to the demands of the Championship, and there is no telling how Ched Evans will do at this level once more having been away for so long.

Sheffield United boast the strongest promoted squad by far so should avoid relegation, but if they are to break into the top half, then further new faces are essential before the window shuts in September.

Where else should your side strengthen before the transfer window closes, Blades fans?
