Everton and Newcastle United are both interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Joe Worrall in the January transfer window, according to The Mirror (27/11, goals pull-out, page 6).

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan at Rangers, but he returned to the City Ground in the summer and has been one of the standout players for Forest so far this season.

The centre-back has been able to establish himself as one of the first names Sabri Lamouchi's teamsheet. He's been an ever-present in the Championship so far and has helped the team keep eight clean sheets in all competitions.

He's played a key role in the Reds' promising start to the campaign and his impressive performances at the back haven't gone unnoticed.

It was reported yesterday that Premier League giants Arsenal are interesting in signing Worrall in the January transfer window, as they look to straighten their defensive options ahead of the second half of the season.

This latest report from The Mirror states that Everton and Newcastle are also keeping close tabs on the defender, having been impressed by his displays for Forest so far this season.

Worrall has risen through the ranks at the City Ground and has already made over 70 appearances for his boyhood club.

The Verdict

Worrall has been excellent for Forest so far this season. He seems to have benefited massively from his loan spell at Rangers last season and all credit to him for the way that he's been able to come back and establish himself as a key member of Lamouchi's side.

He's a very good defender and perhaps it shouldn't be that surprising that he's starting to attract interest from the Premier League - although whether he's ready to make the step up to the top flight is a different matter.

One thing is for sure though, Forest must do everything they can to keep hold of the centre-back in January, as he's going to be absolutely vital to their chances of promotion.
