Aston Villa centre back Tyrone Mings has been the latest player to heap praise on Jack Grealish, highlighting that the midfielder deserves all the plaudits following a Second City derby victory.

Early in the first-half a Birmingham City supporter evaded stewards and struck Grealish from behind, leaving the Aston Villa captain on the floor.

However, the 23-year-old, who struck the winning goal in the second-half, decided the tight 1-0.

And, praise has been flooding in for the boyhood Villan across social media over the last 24 hours, first of all for his reaction to the incident, and then his all-important goal.

Mings has been the latest to do so, with the defender tweeting the following:

The story has developed today, with Sky Sports reporting that the fan, who has been named as Paul Mitchell, has been sentenced to 14 weeks in prison for assault, whilst he’s also been handed a 10-year ban from football stadiums.

In addition to that, Mitchell will pay £350 in costs, with £100 of that heading to Grealish in compensation.

In terms of the football, it was Villa’s second successive victory, keeping them in the hunt for play-off football.

The Verdict

It is hard not to praise Grealish for how he acted yesterday.

What happened to him was a disgrace, but he responded in the best possible way by winning his side the three points.

It showed real maturity from Grealish, and Mings recognises that.
