Pablo Hernandez will miss Leeds United’s trip to Cardiff City on Sunday, but will return to training with the first-team on Wednesday.

Leeds are restarting their season after a postponement of over three months, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side looking to hit the ground running at Cardiff and press on with their push for the Premier League.

However, they will have to do so without Hernandez, with the 35-year-old picking up a minor issue in training that will deny him the chance to play a part in Cardiff.

There was more positive news on that injury, though, with Bielsa confirming Hernandez will be back with the group on Wednesday.

“Pablo is returning to the training next Wednesday,” Bielsa told Leeds’ media channels.

On the back of Leeds’ trip to Cardiff, there is a six-day break heading into their next fixture.

It will be Fulham heading to Elland Road on June 27th for a mouth-watering clash at the top of the Championship table.

As things stand, Leeds sit top, with West Brom a point behind. However, Fulham are still lurking in third, seven points adrift of the Whites, knowing victory at Elland Road in eight days would set the cat amongst the pigeons.

The Verdict

This is better news for Leeds on the back of the Hernandez setback.

Leeds can cope without the 35-year-old in Cardiff, but long-term, they will need him if they are going to win promotion to the Premier League.

A clash with Fulham at Elland Road is massive and Hernandez returning just before that is the perfect tonic for Leeds.
