Alex Neil’s first year at Deepdale has been a successful one, with Preston North End again showing signs of improvement in the Sky Bet Championship.

Preston finished the season in seventh, agonisingly close to a place in the top-six, with their play-off surge coming too late in the season.

With Preston’s 2017/18 campaign over, we take a look back over their season in our latest FLW Spotlight:

Neil’s side won 19 of their 46 fixtures, drawing a further 16 and losing on just 11 occasions. The Lilywhites also finished with a positive goal difference, having scored 57 goals and conceded 46.

The pick of those goals came from Alan Browne for his incredible effort against Cardiff City, which is our FLW Goal of the Season.

Browne, who enjoyed a magnificent individual campaign, including scoring eight goals across all competitions, also picks up our Player of the Year award.

The pick of the 23-year-old’s goals was undoubtedly his long-range effort in the 3-0 victory over Cardiff, which was also our Preston Performance of the Year.

Other award winners in our FLW review go to Darnell Fisher, who was our Signing of the Year, whilst Ben Davies picked up our Young Player of the Year award following an excellent campaign.

Finally, we take a look at the best quote to come out of Deepdale, which came from Neil, who was discussing Preston’s chances ahead of the season: “Our budget is not going to be one of the big ones – everybody is aware of that – but money doesn’t buy you success.”
