Chelsea will continue to pay a portion of Matt Miazga's wages during his season-long loan spell with Reading, journalist Anthony Smith has revealed.

The Royals confirmed on Wednesday morning that Miazga had returned to the Madejski Stadium on a season-long loan, having previously spent the second half of the previous campaign with the Championship club, making 18 appearances for Jose Gomes' side.

It has now been said that throughout the course of this season, it will be Miazga's parent club who will continue to pick up the majority of his wage bill, freeing up finances for Reading to potentially spend elsewhere.

According to reports from The Sun, The Royals are operating under a soft transfer embargo this summer after breaching Financial Fair Play regulations, meaning they cannot sign players without the permission of the EFL.

Along with Miazga, Everton goalkeeper Joao Virginia has also joined Reading on a season-long loan this summer, while Charlie Adam and Michael Morrison have both moved to the Madejski Stadium after being released by Stoke and Birmingham respectively.

The Verdict

This feels like a useful bonus for Reading.

Giving his proven ability and evident popularity around the club, simply bringing Miazga back to the Madejski Stadium felt like something of a coup for the club.

Now however, the fact that they have done that while also managing to get a significantly reduced price on the wages they are paying, means that they could potentially go out and use that additional space in the wage budget to invest in some other recruits for the squad.

It is interesting also to note that Chelsea have agreed to this particular deal, and you wonder whether it is an approach they will take to loan moves for other players, something which could serve to benefit a number of other Football League sides.
