Sheffield Wednesday remain in talks to sign Michael Hector on a permanent deal, but Chelsea are refusing to sell the defender for less than £5million, according to Dom Howson of the Sheffield Star.

The 27-year-old spent last season on loan at Hillsborough, where he scored two goals in 39 appearances for Wednesday in all competitions.

The Owls are in talks with Chelsea to sign the centre-back on a permanent deal, but the Premier League club are refusing to sell him for less than £5million.

Hector has never made a senor appearance for Chelsea and has spent time on loan at four different clubs - Reading, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hull and Wednesday - since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2015.

Wednesday finished 12th in the Championship table last season, ten points outside the play-off places and are keen to strengthen their squad before the transfer deadline.

The Owls have already made one deadline day signing, with midfielder Massimo Luongo joining from QPR on a permanent deal for an undisclosed fee.

The Verdict

Hector was magnificent for Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship last season and it would be a fantastic signing for the Owls if they are able to secure his services on a permanent deal.

The defender probably isn't going to get a chance at Chelsea this season, so it makes perfect sense for him to leave the club this summer and Wednesday could be the perfect move for him.

It would make sense for Chelsea to cash in on the defender during this transfer window too, rather than allow him to leave for free when his contract expires next summer.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea are prepared to drop their valuation as the deadline gets closer, or whether Wednesday will be more willing to pay the £5million for him.
