Sheffield Wednesday will look to extend their unbeaten Championship run to five matches when they entertain Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The Owls lost 1-0 at Preston North End on the opening weekend of the campaign but have since won one and drawn three of their four matches, leaving Carlos Carvalhal’s men 16th in the division over the first international break of the season.
The Yorkshire outfit drew at home to Sunderland and Queens Park Rangers before recording their first win of the campaign at Fulham on August 19, although they couldn’t back that up with all three points at Burton Albion just prior to the fortnight’s interruption, drawing 1-1 at the Pirelli Stadium.
Nonetheless, Carvalhal’s men will be confident of continuing their solid run of form on Saturday, although they will have to do so without influential attacker Fernando Forestieri, who looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The 27-year-old made the move to Hillsborough back in 2015 and has since then been a hugely integral part of Carvalhal’s side, bagging 27 goals and laying on 14 assists in 80 appearances for the Owls as they twice have reached the top six, only to fail in their quest to return to the Premier League.
And manager Carvalhal confirmed in his pre-Forest press conference on Friday (via the club’s official Twitter handle) that Forestieri would be undergoing surgery on his knee, and thus will miss at least the next three months of the campaign.
And news of Forestieri’s sustained spell on the sidelines has stimulated quite a response from Wednesday supporters on Twitter…

Is this the knee he injured v Brentford last season? Wasnt happy with their tactics. Lots of niggly fouls. Was concerned when he was hurt.

If we’ve let Winnall go out on loan knowing Forestieri was injured I genuinely have given up. Surely not? #swfc
