West Bromich Albion will go into the new Championship season as promotion contenders, following their relegation from England’s top-flight last campaign.

Darren Moore’s side have already brought in the likes of Kyle Bartley on a permanent deal to sure up the centre of their defence, and signed Sam Johnstone to replace Hertfordshire bound Ben Foster.

These are inspired signings for the Albion, which look to have bought back hope to the West Brom faithful, and will send them in to the new season with real belief that might be able to bounce straight back to the Premier League.

A combination of these new additions and keeping the old guard could be lethal in the Championship. But, with one more change, West Brom could be unstoppable.

The right-back position isn’t the most glamorous and doesn’t often create the biggest named players, but at the Hawthorns, has been somewhat of a merry-go-round of players and preferences.

Last season, Matt Phillips was able to play in the wing-back role, while Gareth McCauley often found himself on the right side of a back three, drifting into the right back position, but neither option felt comfortable, which left Allan Nyom taking up the role as the default option.

With McCauley recently parting company with the Baggies and Matt Phillips being linked with a move away, as we approach the start of the Championship season, Darren Moore’s eyes must turn to the transfer market if they are to push for promotion.

While ex-Watford full back Alan Nyom isn’t short of experience, he is susceptible to mistakes, and lacks the pace and power that Moore’s side will need this coming season.

The acquisition of a new right back could end up being the difference between automatic promotion, and a measly mid-table finish this season for the Baggies.
