Darren Moore has indicated that Craig Dawson could be set to make a return to West Bromwich Albion’s first-team following Allan Nyom’s departure.

It has been confirmed this morning that Nyom has left the Hawthorns on loan, leaving West Brom short of options at right-back, which has proved to be a problem position so far this season.

Moore hasn’t been successful in his pursuit of signing a right-back, but told the Express and Star that wantaway Dawson was an option that may be considered this weekend against Queens Park Rangers: “He’s played that position before. He can play right-back or centre-back, it’s good to have that option.

“It’s a possibility. We know we’ve got that cover for that spot if we need to call upon it.”

Earlier in the summer, Dawson was at the centre of a transfer standoff with West Brom, with the defender pushing for a move following the Baggies’ relegation back into the Sky Bet Championship.

The 28-year-old handed in a transfer request in early July, with Burnley, Everton and West Ham United all credited with an interest in the defender at the time.

A move never materialised during the permanent window, with Dawson still on the books at the Hawthorns.

Moore’s side have picked up four points from their opening three fixtures of the Championship season, and will be looking to add to that tally against QPR this weekend.

Steve McClaren’s side have failed to pick up a point yet this season ahead of their trip to the Midlands.

The Verdict

Dawson is a good defender, who if available, should be considered for a role at right-back or centre-back.

Of course, it’s a little surprising given Dawson’s eagerness to move this summer, but he’s a professional and needs to put that behind him.

If a move isn’t happening, Moore needs to start reintegrating the 28-year-old.
