Nottingham Forest were staring down the barrel at a relegation dogfight just a few weeks ago but a draw followed by three consecutive victories have lifted them away from the drop zone and now they will definitely be looking upwards rather than over their shoulder.

Philippe Montanier's position as manager has probably been saved due to uncertainty over the club's ownership but he is slowly turning things around at the City Ground.

Forest's home victory over league leaders and "champions-elect" Newcastle United (albeit against nine men after Shelvey and Dummett saw red) was a real statement to the rest of the league that the Reds are ready to compete with the big boys in this league.

In order to do this, Montanier will need to squeeze the best out of some his players in this talented squad.

A few have not been pulling their weight so far and here are two that Montanier should aim to get more out of.

Pajtim Kasami

kasami

Pajtim Kasami has contrasted the brilliant with the distinctly average and Montanier will be hoping that he is more consistent as the season progresses.

The Switzerland international is a regular feature in Forest's midfield and we all know his capabilities from his time with Fulham in the Premier League.

The talented 24-year-old needs to play at his best every week and the central midfield region (with Lansbury and Osborn just ahead) will be among the best in the league.

Thomas Lam

Thomas LamThomas Lam

Like Kasami, Thomas Lam's form has gone up and down and Montanier will be hoping for some more steady and consistent displays.

The Finland international scored in each of his first two appearances but went on to make some defensive mistakes and was sent off against Cardiff.

The 22-year-old has recently moved from centre back to central defensive midfield though and this seems to be working better for the team, with Lansbury given license to roam further up the pitch and Lam protecting the defence while still learning.
