Philippe Montanier must act fast in January to turn things around at The City Ground because his future as manager might depend on the next few games.

The Frenchman has been underwhelming to say the least since his summer arrival in the East Midlands and Forest are wallowing in the bottom half of the Championship at the halfway stage of this campaign.

With the proposed takeover of American businessman John Jay Moores set to be completed in the near future (and possibly even as soon as early January), Montanier must already be sending them his list of targets to revive this faltering Forest squad.

The January transfer window will shape how things go for Forest in the rest of the window: if they have a successful month of business then they could launch a late surge for an unlikely play-off spot but an unsuccessful window could see them dragged into a relegation battle.

Here are 2 pieces of January business that must be done early next month.

Henri Lansbury

The most important business that Forest will do in January concerns the future of Henri Lansbury.

With the star midfielder's contract due to expire in the summer, clubs are inevitably sniffing around and hoping to snap him up on a bargain.

Losing Lansbury in January would be disastrous for Nottingham Forest.

If Forest can secure Lansbury's future by making him put pen to paper on a new deal then that will be a massive boost for the rest of the season.

Omar Bogle

Nottingham Forest need a reliable striker because Bendtner and Vellios are inconsistent whilst Assombalonga is unfortunately injury prone.

Plenty of clubs are looking at Omar Bogle, who has lit up League Two with 16 goals and 3 assists this season for Grimsby Town.

The 23-year-old is fast, strong and he knows where the net is which could make him a shrewd piece of January business if he can make the step up.
