With a takeover on the horizon the January transfer window could be an exciting proposition for those of a Nottingham Forest persuasion.

American investors are set to begin a new era at the City Ground which will appease the Forest faithful, following years of boardroom mismanagement.

Forest were beaten by fierce rivals Derby County on Sunday and the Reds will look to return to winning ways when Preston North End arrive in the East Midlands on Wednesday evening.

Philippe Montanier’s men had improved in recent weeks and won three on the spin prior to the game at Derby, including a solid 2-1 home win against table-topping Newcastle United.

The Reds will be looking to improve during the second half of the campaign and some reinforcements to the squad come January could be just what the club needs.

Football League World writer Lee Clarke looks at two transfers that Nottingham Forest can ill-afford to miss out on during the January transfer window.

Omar Bogle

Omar Boglefg

The powerful Grimsby Town forward has been in scintillating form this season, netting 16 goals for the Mariners during their maiden season back in the Football League.

The 23-year-old is exactly the sort of striker which Forest require at the moment and his form this season has apparently attracted lots of interest from Championship clubs.

With doubts over the fitness of talisman Britt Assombalonga, Forest are desperate for another poacher in front of goal and Bogle looks an ideal signing for the Reds.

Matty James

Matty James

The Leicester City midfielder has not featured for the Foxes’ first-team this season and a loan move would be useful for James during the January window.

The 25-year-old is a proven Championship performer, having been a mainstay in the Leicester team which romped to the second-tier title during the 2013/14 campaign.

With Henri Lansbury set to miss several weeks of action with a hamstring injury, Forest have an urgent void to fill in midfield and James would be a solid addition to the Reds’ squad.
