Tomasz Kuszczak is free to leave Birmingham City this summer as Garry Monk looks to shake up his goalkeeping options at St Andrew’s.

A report in the Birmingham Mail has confirmed that Kuszczak will be allowed to move on this summer, along with David Stockdale, another of Birmingham’s goalkeepers.

Monk is looking to reshape his squad at St Andrew’s, after guiding Birmingham to safety on the final day of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season.

Kuszczak has been with Birmingham since the summer of 2015, with the 36-year-old goalkeeper making 92 appearances across all competitions for the Blues, including 89 in the Championship.

12 of those appearances came during the 2017/18 campaign, with Kuszczak featuring on 10 occasions in the Championship.

However, the last of those appearances came in November, with Monk preferring Stockdale in goal during Birmingham’s Championship run-in.

Despite playing a role in helping Birmingham survive, Stockdale, like Kuszczak, is expected to be moved on this summer.

Stockdale is attracting interest from Leeds United already this summer, but is not yet close to moving to Elland Road, with Leeds’ reported bid not meeting Birmingham’s valuation.

The Verdict

Monk is clearly wanting to shake things up at St Andrew’s after what was a difficult year for Birmingham.

Both Stockdale and Kuszczak are good options in goal, but Monk, embarking on his first full summer, wants a man he can trust ahead of next season.

There’s an element of risk moving both goalkeepers on this summer, but Birmingham do need to make changes, after two years of flirting with relegation in the Championship.
