Middlesbrough midfielder Gaston Ramirez is set to leave the Championship as Garry Monk’s summer overhaul looks like continuing, according to his agent via El Desmarque.
The 26-year-old moved to the Riverside Stadium back in 2015 in a bid to help Aitor Karanka’s men reach the Premier League, and he did just that with seven goals and four assists for the club in just 18 Championship appearances, helping them to second place in the table.
However, he was one of many Boro stars who underperformed in their top-flight campaign last term, with the Uruguay international bagging just twice in 24 games for the North East outfit, with his last game for the club likely to be that 4-0 loss to Bournemouth, where Ramirez got sent off after 20 minutes.
And it looks like Monk’s summer overhaul of the squad is set to continue, as recent reports suggest that La Liga side Real Betis are closing in on his signature, at least according to his agent anyway, who has said: ‘The agreement by Gaston is almost done.’
These comments are sure to intrigue Boro fans who certainly didn’t see the best of the 26-year-old last season, but most definitely played his part in helping them get to the top-flight in the first place.
Nonetheless, new boss Monk is stamping his authority on the Middlesbrough squad with several incomings and many outgoings, and it looks like Ramirez will be another to exit the Riverside Stadium in the not too distant future.
