Quoted by Yorkshire Live, Garry Monk has revealed that Sheffield Wednesday were never in for striker Rhian Brewster in the January transfer window.

The forward joined Swansea City on loan from Liverpool and has had a good few months in the Championship with him honing his craft as a striker.

Indeed, he was linked with several clubs during the last window and Sheffield Wednesday were one of the names to be thrown into the hat, but Garry Monk has revealed that such rumours were wide of the mark.

He said:

"I know him and am aware of him, but we’re weren’t at all at the table to try and sign him in January."

The Verdict

Football fans have grown accustomed to transfer stories coming about with varying levels of factual evidence behind them and it appears as though Brewster was not one the Owls were looking to sign in the January window.

He's had a good run for the Swans this season, though, and will be looking to continue that against the men from Hillsborough this weekend as the two meet and Monk goes back to the club he's perhaps most associated with.

Wednesday, though, will be aiming to stop him and bounce back from their midweek loss against West Bromwich Albion - a result that leaves them firmly looking at a mid-table finish this year.
