Garry Monk has been speaking to the press this morning ahead of Sheffield Wednesday's clash with Birmingham City in the Sky Bet Championship and revealed a few injury concerns that he has currently got.

The Owls will be looking to earn another important three points against the Blues this weekend as they look to get back into positive territory in terms of points but Aitor Karanka's men will not make it easy for them.

It should be a close game, but the Owls will have to take to the field without the likes of Tom Lees, Liam Shaw and Izzy Brown potentially.

Speaking to the press and as quoted by Yorkshire Live, Monk said:

"It’s unlikely that Tom Lees and Liam Shaw will make it.

"I will give the others as long as they can to be in contention.

"We have not got the biggest of squads. Everyone will be needed this season. Players will need to step up and take it."

On Izzy Brown, Monk also said that his dead leg had gone down in terms of swelling but that he does not want to rush the player back so we'll see if he is involved this weekend.

The Verdict

Wednesday, like every side this season, will have to contend with injuries coming up perhaps more frequently than usual with how packed in the schedule is.

We're about to embark on a serious run of games in the EFL now, and it'll be interesting to see who can build momentum.

Surely, it'll come down largely to the sides that steer clear of injuries most.
