Sat fourth in the table but just three points above seventh-placed Derby County, Leeds United face a stern test in the second-half of the season to keep their race for promotion on track and Garry Monk is likely to enter the transfer market.

Whilst they've remained competitive so far, the race for promotion is fierce this season and Monk's side will need additional recruits in January to bolster their ranks - especially as those around them will also be looking to do the same.

Fortunately, there is plenty of capable players around that Leeds should target, but Monk would be well advised to move swiftly to give his club the best possible chance of keeping up their charge and reaching their goals this season.

Here, we've identified two targets that Leeds should move for immediately when the window opens next week, as they can both help Monk's side achieve a return to the top-flight for the first time since 2004.

Lewis Cook

Since leaving Leeds for Bournemouth in the summer, things haven't quite gone right for Lewis Cook as he suffered an early season injury and saw his chances of featuring regularly upon his return hindered by the Deadline Day arrival of Jack Wilshere on the South Coast.

Just 19, Cook would benefit from regular football and he could get those opportunities back at Elland Road if he was return on a short-term deal. Given the fact he's well-adversed to life at Leeds, he should settle immediately.

Leon Osman

At the age of 35, Leon Osman looks set to end his long association with Everton in January and Leeds are amongst those linked with his signature. Whilst he is past his best on the field, the impact he could provide off it may be vital.

With over 350 Premier League appearances at Goodison Park during his career, Osman's experience at the highest level would provide a real boost to a young Leeds squad, and he can also help develop the younger players at Elland Road.
