Birmingham City captain Michael Morrison could return to Garry Monk's starting line-up this weekend after a spell on the sidelines.

The 30-year-old missed last weekend's 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park after limping off during the second half of their clash with Bristol City but could return on Saturday.

"Morro is back out on the grass today," Monk told his pre-match press conference.

"He will be going into training tomorrow.

"Whether he is ready for Saturday we will have to see - but I will talk to him."

Morrison had played every minute of the campaign until he limped off against the Robins, becoming a key part of the Blues' resilient squad.

Monk's side travel to Wigan Athletic this weekend, who have lost just twice at home all season, as they look to close the gap on the top-six.

Birmingham currently sit in 11th place and five points behind Middlesbrough, who currently occupy the final play-off spot going into the weekend's action.

The verdict

This would be a massive boost to the Blues, especially with Marc Roberts now set for a spell on the sidelines as well.

Harlee Dean has done a brilliant job as captain in his absence but the partnership the pair have formed has been crucial in Monk building the resilient side that he has.

But it also important not to rush him back. Wes Harding did a great job when replacing Roberts at Blackburn so there should be no hesitation to throw him in again.
