Birmingham City are back in action tomorrow as they look to get themselves mathematically safe as soon as possible.

The Blues have seen themselves shunted down towards the bottom of the Championship table thanks to a nine-point deduction but they look more than capable of getting safe as soon as possible.

Squad-wise they're looking pretty fit, too, but Maikel Kieftenbeld is one man set to be missing for some time after having to undergo surgery.

Garry Monk has discussed that in his press conference today, too, and had this to say:

Obviously, needing surgery is never good but it seems as though it has gone well and now the holding player will be eager to get back to fitness as soon as possible.

The Verdict

The Blues should get themselves safe quicker than those below them to be honest as they are not down there thanks to their performances.

For sure, then, there is still plenty to be optimistic about at the club and fans will hope Kieftenbeld will be back in action in good time.

How long it actually takes for him to get back to fitness remains to be seen, though, and the best approach is to not rush him.
