Birmingham City manager Garry Monk has given an update on the fitness of first-team trio David Davis, Isaac Vassell and Kerim Mrabti.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Monk said all three were making good progress but was unclear on whether they would be ready for the weekend.

"@Diggad1991, @Vassell93 and Mrabti are all getting sharper," Monk said, reported on the club's official Twitter account.

"We can’t demand their highest level too early but what we can do is make sure they are ready to contribute.

"We are going to need them so it is all hands on deck for the remaining games."

Midfielder Davis made his first appearance of the season in last week's defeat to Bolton Wanderers, making his comeback from an ankle injury.

Vassell too missed large parts of the season opening with a long-term knee injury but has made cameo appearances in the club's last six matches, whilst Mrabti continues to get up to speed having joined the club in January.

This weekend sees them come up against Blackburn Rovers as Monk looks to reignite an ambitious push for the play-offs.

The verdict

This great news for Birmingham.

All three have the potential to not only be important players this season but in the coming years as well, although it is sensible of Monk not to rush them back.

The last thing he will want is for either to suffer a long-term injury now and be out of action for a huge chunk of next season too.
