As January approached, Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen was to be one of the hottest properties in the Championship, attracting interest from the league’s big hitters and the Premier League.

The Tigers came into this season looking to push for the play-offs under Grant McCann and once again have turned to the goals of star forward Jarrod Bowen to push them towards the top six.

Bowen started this season as he ended the last, firing in goals at the KCOM Stadium and elsewhere, proving to be one of the top marksmen in the Championship.

So far, he has hit 16 goals and registered six assists in 28 league games, and has rightly been subject to strong interest from sides at the top end of the division and even the Premier League.

It was reported earlier in the window that Leeds United were set to table a loan-to-buy bid for Bowen, amounting to around £18million, which hasn’t been accepted and Leeds have moved onto a different signing.

However, there is still persistent interest from Premier League outfit Newcastle United, who have been in need of signing a goalscorer this month, after marquee summer signing Joelinton has failed to hit the ground running.

Steve Bruce is keen on Bowen and is hopeful of striking a deal for the 23-year-old before the deadline closes, with McCann admitting that Bowen may need to be sold if he rejects the current offer of a new contract, opening the door wide for the Magpies to swoop for him.

McCann has slapped a £20million valuation on Bowen recently to ward off potential interest while contract talks continue, but it would be a large sum to turn down for a player who could potentially reject a new contract before the transfer window is up.

With the question being put to Hull City fans in the Hull City Fans Forum on Facebook, we take a look at their stance on whether they would buy or sell their star player, should that fee be received…

Phil Cooke “Yes”

Aaron Sullivan “No, I would not.”

Do you know where these ex-Hull players are playing now?

Dean Jewitt “Even though for £20m, hands should be snapped off - No, because the money wouldn’t be reinvested so he might as well stay.”

Callum White “Nope, no signings wouldn't be made if we sold him and we’d struggle.”

Steve Collinson “Yes as long as it’s put back in for players, or take £20million off the asking price for the sale.”

Neil Pickering “If £10-15million was reinvested then yes, but if not then no, can’t see the Allams investing a fiver of it, to be honest.”

Joe Bartram “Nah, I reckon we could still get a good price in the summer so why sell him now when we have no time to replace him.”

Adam Hobden “Yes as his value is only going to go down after the window unless he signs a new deal.”

Paul Whiteley “Me? No! The Allams? Probably yes and the nearer to 11pm the better. They would have the excuse that there was no time to bring in a replacement and say that the player was unsettled and that they couldn’t stand in his way. Thus giving them £20million to pay down the debt and reduce their financial stake in the club.”
