Brentford's Kamohelo Mokotjo has opened up about his side's recent form, after the Bees went 4th in the Championship with their weekend win against Fulham.

A 1-0 win at home to fellow top-six rivals Fulham at the weekend boosted Brentford up to 4th-place - one point behind Preston in 3rd and a point ahead of Fulham who dropped to 6th.

It was Bryan Mbeumo with his fourth goal in as many games who stole the win, which was Brentford's fourth in a row at Griffin Park.

Mokotjo played the full-ninety against Fulham and has featured in 17 of Brentford's 22 Championship games so far this season, and speaking to Soccer Laduma after the weekend win, the South African said:

"It was a bit busy here and there, but that’s what I do - I grow stronger and stronger into the game as it goes on. I’m fairly calm even when I make mistakes - so that went well today and it was good to have a run in my CDM position."

Bees boss Thomas Frank has adopted a 4-3-3 formation for much of this campaign and it seems to be their best set-up. With it though, Mokotjo has become more of a rotational player, often playing on either side of the midfield-three.

“It’s been a tough season, but the good thing is that I expected it to be a tough season so that prepared me mentally for what’s coming," explained the 28-year-old. "I’ll keep working hard, make sure I keep my level on the pitch, so that’s no problem for me. When the team does well, I’m happy.”

Mokotjo is a fan favourite at Griffin Park since signing from Dutch outfit FC Twente in 2017 - he's played a good amount of games since arriving in England for the first time in his career, and remains an important player to Frank's current set-up.

The verdict

Very few expected Brentford to have as good a season as they have, but it was almost predictable - signing some of the league's best players in the summer, continuing their fine work with the B team and having their new stadium on the horizon as well.

Bees fans have a lot to look forward to, and Mokotjo too. Whenever called upon he shows his quality, and shows why he's such a favourite at Griffin Park.
