According to a transfer report from the Daily Mail (22/01, 15:15), Ross McCormack is attracting interest from the MLS, with the Aston Villa striker yet to agree an extension on his deal with Melbourne City.

McCormack is currently on-loan in Australia from Villa, but his short-term deal with Melbourne is yet to be extended until the end of the season, which has alerted LA Galaxy, Orlando City and Colorado Rapids, who are all interested in offering the striker a route to America.

Aston Villa moved to sign McCormack in the summer of 2016, but the Scottish striker has flopped at Villa Park, failing to earn a regular chance under Steve Bruce, scoring just three Sky Bet Championship goals for the club.

However, the striker’s loan spell in Australia has been a stark contrast to the form he left behind at Villa Park, with the 31-year-old amongst the goals for his new employers, scoring on 14 occasions in just 16 appearances for Melbourne.

McCormack’s form has brought him to the attention of MLS clubs, who would be willing to take the striker on if he failed to agree an extension on his loan deal at Melbourne.

Bruce has no plans to offer McCormack another chance at Villa Park.

The Verdict

McCormack is putting himself back on the map with his form for Melbourne, which is credit to the player.

Villa clearly don’t see a future for McCormack, and if he fails to agree a new deal with Melbourne, America could be a realistic option for the striker and another opportunity for him to find a regular home.

The next move McCormack makes could be big for his career.
