MK Dons striker Nicky Maynard believes that the club need to build on their 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday to push up the Sky Bet Championship table, according to the Dons' official website

Karl Robinson's MK Dons moved out of the bottom three after victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night

The 29-year-old netted what proved to be the match-winner in the 2-1 victory, his second goal of the season, to help Karl Robinson's side to a fifth win of the season.

Maynard now wants the side to build on the victory, a result which moved them out of the Championship bottom three, over the bust Christmas period.

He told MK Dons Player: 'It was a deserved three points. It’s on to the next one now, though, because they come thick and fast and we need to keep pushing up the table.

'It’s about consistency. Some of the teams around us have put wins together and pushed themselves out of the relegation zone. We’ve got the three points and hopefully we can get another three points on Saturday.'

Robinson’s men were promoted to the Championship last season when they finally secured an automatic promotion spot, finishing second behind Bristol City, who they are currently level on points with following Tuesday’s much-needed win.

The club have had a tough start to life in the second tier of English football, after just two wins out of their first nine Championship games, but have now managed five victories this season from 21 games.

After the game against Nottingham Forest, the Dons face Russell Slade’s Cardiff City who themselves secured a dramatic mid-week victory, and then travel to Birmingham City.

If the Dons can get good results in these three games, they would find themselves in a much better position as they enter January which would increase their ability to attract players to Stadium MK in the transfer window.
