MK Dons boss Karl Robinson has remained optimistic about being able to replace the goals that he has lost following the departure of Benik Afobe to Championship side Wolves earlier on this week.

Afobe joined originally from Premier League club Arsenal following a series of loans in the lower divisions, and immediately made his presence felt at the League One side.

The striker managed to notch 19 goals for the club after just 30 appearances, which led to interest and the eventual transfer to Wolves.

Robinson reassured supporters however that the departure of Afobe will not effect the momentum of the side.

He told the official website that the departure: "was disappointing for us and also for the fans, when they found out. We always seem to lose our key and influential players in this window but that’s because they start the season so well."

Robinson went on to highlight the importance of all of the players within his squad, going on to say: “We’re not just a one man side, though. Yes, Benik scored 19 goals for us, which is a tremendous feat from him, but we still believe we’ve got enough within his Football Club, both on and off the pitch, to compete with some of the best teams in the league.

"The players have been very vocal this week about what they want to achieve together and our goalposts haven’t changed regardless of Benik moving on - we feel we’re still in a good place.”

The Dons will take fellow promotion contenders Sheffield United at home this weekend.

Karl Robinson's side currently sit in third position in Sky Bet League One, and are six points away from league leaders Swindon Town.

A win against Sheffield United on Saturday would go a long way in aiding the club's promotion hopes and aspirations.
