Sheffield Wednesday will be without striker Gary Hooper for around two-and-a-half months after undergoing surgery.

The former Celtic striker hasn't played this season after suffering with a groin injury, and he took to social media to share an update.

Whilst the 30-year-old didn't disclose the nature of his injury, the Sheffield Star have confirmed that Hooper faces a 10-week spell on the sidelines.

That will be a blow for Jos Luhukay, who could do with the striker who grabbed 10 goals in 24 games last season.

This will keep him out of the hectic festive period and his return won't be until the New Year, which will mean Hooper has missed over a year with his fitness struggles.

However, there was good news on the status of another forward, with Fernando Forestieri back in full training after a hamstring injury.

The talented former Watford man hasn't played since the 2-1 victory at Bristol City, but is struggling to be involved against Norwich this weekend at Hillsborough.

Luhukay will welcome that news nevertheless, with the Owls losing the three games that Forestieri has missed.

Those results have left the Yorkshire side down in 15th place ahead of the weekend fixtures, with Wednesday six points behind the top six.

The Verdict

The news regarding Hooper is a blow for Wednesday and the player himself, who will be gutted that he's set for another spell out.

However, the Forestieri update is a massive positive as he has real class on the ball and has been missed recently.

Luhukay will be hoping he can make an immediate impact on his return to the side even if it isn't against the Canaries this weekend.
