Barnsley will be hoping they can turn their poor start to the season around at the earliest of opportunities in their first season back in the second tier.

They've only got one league win to their name, which came on the opening day against newly-relegated Fulham at Oakwell.

But they're set to be without Mallik Wilks for their next game against Swansea City on Saturday 19th October, with the forward set to serve a one-match suspension for picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.

Wilks has struggled to replicate the form that he had previously shown in front of goal last season for Doncaster Rovers, where he netted 14 league goals for the League One club.

The former Leeds man is yet to score for the Tykes, and will be hoping to impress their new manager, following Daniel Stendel's sacking during the international break.

But according to the Barnsley Chronicle, they are set to welcome back Bambo Diaby and Kenny Dougall when they're next in action after the international break.

Dougall has been out of action since March when he fractured his leg, but is likely to step up his recovery efforts for the under 23's team against Birmingham City.

Diaby has made five league appearances so far this season for the Tykes, but has been sidelined since August with an ankle injury but he too could be involved for when the first-team are back in competitive action.

Barnsley take on league leaders Swansea City after the international break, in what is certain to be one of their toughest tests of the season to date.

The Verdict:

It's a mixed update for the Oakwell faithful.

Wilks hasn't hit his best form yet, and the Barnsley supporters will be hoping that they can see him fire them up the table at the earliest of opportunities.

With Diaby and Dougall also set to return to the first-team picture, it will mean that competition for places in the Barnsley starting XI will be fiercer than ever before.
