Aston Villa fans will no doubt be disappointed to hear that it was indeed the Villans who came close to signing current Wolves striker Leo Bonatini last season, but the club could not afford him.

In a report by Birmingham Live, it reveals that the Brazilian striker was there for the taking for Villa, only for the club to not have the financial muscle to push through a deal and secure the signing of the big striker.

Bonatini has since gone on to sign for rivals Wolves this term, and has helped himself to 12 goals while becoming an integral part of the squad which is romping to Championship success this term under manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

It is another bitter blow for Villa, who have had to sit back and watch their Midlands rivals take the league by storm, and despite the Villans themselves putting up a good fight and maintaining their push for automatic promotion, many Villa fans will wonder what might have been had they captured Bonatini.

Wolves and Villa meet this evening in what is sure to be a lively game on Sky.

Villans and Wolves fans, what do you think? Would Bonatini going to Villa have changed matters? Let us know in the comments!
