Gary Rowett's Millwall will already be putting plans in place for next season, with the Lions neither in play-off contention nor at threat of relegation as the season moves closer to its conclusion.

The combination of a stern defence and clinical attack has seen the London based club secure their Championship status with roughly 10 games to spare, with Rowett having taken to the job well since arriving at the New Den.

It is likely that we will see some changes in personnel this summer, with there inevitably being players that are out of contract, whilst the club hierarchy is sure to be eying up targets as they seek to improve in all areas.

The play-offs have been just beyond the club over the past few years and they simply have to be target going into the next few seasons, otherwise the Lions will begin to stagnate.

Here, we have drawn up a list of Millwall's 10 most expensive signings according to Transfermarkt.

A towering centre back who was signed from Watford during the 2001/02 campaign, Ward went on to play for the Lions for many years before departing for London neighbours Crystal Palace in 2005. He played a total of 142 league games for the South Bermondsey club during his first spell before returning in 2010 to make another 87 appearances before leaving once more in 2013 for Swindon Town. Now well into his 40s, the defender last played for Hemel Hempstead Town in non league during the 2018/19 season. Ward also took his first steps into management back in 2013 as he became caretaker manager during his time with Swindon.

A striker by trade who would go on to only play 16 times in the league for Millwall, Dobie is a name that won't be as fondly remembered by the New Den faithful after failing to make a lasting impact during his time in the capital. More successful with the likes of Carlisle United and West Bromwich Albion, the target man notched just three times in the league for the Lions during a one year spell before departing for Nottingham Forest and repeating the minor feat. A return to Carlisle warranted more goals before his career slowly fizzled out at St Johnstone, Bradford and York City.

A striker or winger by trade, Colquhoun had a one year spell with the Lions during the 90s as he arrived from Hearts in Scotland after playing over 200 games for the Scottish club in the league. He would go on to play just 27 times for Millwall, scoring three goals before moving to Sunderland which then paved the way to a return to Scotland with Hearts once more and latterly St Johnstone as he wound down a career which spanned over 500 league games. The versatile forward also received international recognition and received two caps for Scotland during his career.

A German centre forward who arrived at the Den back in 1995, Fuchs went on to score just five league goals in a one season spell with the London club before returning to his native Germany with Arminia Bielefeld. More of a target man by trade due to his height and heading ability, the former FC Koln player failed to live up to expectations during his time with the Lions and in those days will have been seen as a waste of money by many in the stands. Since retiring he has moved into management and was most recently in charge of VfL Osnabrück during the 2011/12 season.

The towering Icelandic striker has been almost ever present for the Lions since arriving at the club back in 2019 from Reading and continues to add some much needed height and physicality to the Millwall attack under Rowett. Still aged only 28, the hulking forward has notched up well over 100 career goals and continues to make a good impact at Championship level, whilst he has also made over 50 appearances for his country. After initially moving to England with Wolves, Bodvarsson then joined up with the Royals before ending up at the New Den under Neil Harris who then departed to make way for the current managerial regime.

One of the more experienced full backs at Championship level, Malone has spent two separate spells ions throughout his career and continues to be a dependable option on the left hand side of the backline for Rowett. Currently on loan from Derby County as part of his second stint as a Millwall player, the Rowley Regis born defender made his name with the Lions during a first spell that spanned over 60 league games across three years before going on to take in spells with Cardiff City, Fulham and Huddersfield Town. He then moved to Pride Park in 2018 before falling out of favour and rejoining his former club on loan last year.

The winger from the Czech Republic played a total of 29 league games for the Lions before departing this year for FK Mladá Boleslav in his homeland as he brought an uninspiring spell in London and as such English football to an end after previously arriving back in 2018 from Brighton and Hove Albion. Versatile yet largely ineffective during his time with the club, Skalak only found the net on two occasions for the Lions in the league and was quickly deemed surplus to requirements by Rowett after he took on the top job from the departed Neil Harris two years ago.

An exciting and attacking winger by trade, Mahoney arrived at the New Den off the back of a blossoming reputation that he developed during his time at Blackburn Rovers and Bournemouth. He earnt rave reviews after coming through the youth ranks at Ewood Park after leaving his first club Accrington Stanley and would eventually be sold to the Cherries, for whom he would go on to play no league games for before taking in loan spells with the likes of Barnsley and Birmingham City before eventually joining Millwall permanently in 2019. He has often flattered to deceive since then, with inconsistencies being his biggest weakness.

A tall and powerful central midfield player, Leonard previously arrived at the New Den back in the 2018.19 season on loan from Sheffield United after failing to make an impact for the Blades after he joined them from Southend back in 2018 after a seven year spell at the Essex based club, for whom he played over 200 games for. Now permanently signed up with the Lions, the 28-year-old continues to be an important member of the squad and has continued to adapt to the demands of Championship football after making the step up from playing in the lower tiers of the Football League.

A prolific striker during his time at both Walsall and Barnsley, Bradshaw initially arrived at the New Den on loan from the Tykes in 2018 before making his move to London permanent as Millwall paid out a significant amount to secure the nimble frontman's services. He has since gone on to gain international recognition for Wales and continues to be a good threat for his club despite only finding the net on 11 occasions in the league since he moved to the English capital. Born and bred in Shrewsbury, the striker also took in a spell at his local side, Shrewsbury Town, between 2009 and 2014.
