Millwall's Murray Wallace has stated that they have become more attacking since playing five at the back due to the ability to press teams.

The Lions have been in terrific form since Gary Rowett came in, and have lost just once in the nine games that he's been in charge for.

Before Rowett came in as first-team manager, Millwall had not recorded a victory away from home all season. Now, they've won three away from The Den against some very good teams, which include Swansea, Bristol City and most recently Derby.

Wallace has expressed that the new system of playing five at the back with wing-backs has massively improved Millwall's ability play on the front foot and has given the side belief results will continue to come.

Speaking to Millwall's official website, Wallace said: "I've slightly pushed on a bit. As funny as it sounds, playing five at the back has actually allowed us to be on the front foot a bit more. We're not as defensive, we go out there and press teams and it suits us.

"The lads have been playing out of their skins recently and popping up with goals all over. Jed in particular has been flying. We've got a real belief in what we're doing and the results will come with the right performances."

The Verdict

Wallace has been terrific in Millwall's new system, and they have looked a much better preposition when playing five at the back, especially away from home.

Winning at places such as Bristol City and Derby would have only breeder confidence in the side, and everyone around the club seems uplifted since Rowett took over as manager.

It's set to be an interesting Christmas period, with Millwall knowing a good run of fixtures could see them end up in the play-offs.
